LILIANE CHLELA
A multi-faceted electronic firebrand from Lebanon. Producer, DJ and performer Liliane Chlela’s distinct sound treatment has made her an essential feature of the electronic and experimental scenes in Lebanon and the rest of the Middle East and North Africa today. She exhibits a multi-sensory flair for adventure, which has let her bring her work into diverse collaborations, making music for fashion films, interactive installations and performance. As a composer/producer and a hybrid DJ, Chlela approaches several music genres and explores the connections between improvisation and sonic manipulation. She has performed as a solo artist around the world, but has also made a name as a versatile and sought after collaborator, working with acts such as Mashrou’ Leila’s Hamed Sinno, the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and composer Khyam Allami and Björn Meyer. We are thrilled to be able to invite her to Tromsø World this year.
GLITTER55
Electronic territorial explorations from Moroccan shooting star. After arriving in Paris at the age of 24, the DJ Manar Fegrouch quickly made a name for herself under the alias GLITTER55, derived from her passion for glitter socks and a Moroccan incantation her grandmother often repeated to her, guarding against the evil eye. Her outstanding and organic performance at Les Transmusicales (Rennes) in 2018 was a major breakthrough for her electronic explorations and was followed by performances at several major festivals in France and other countries. GLITTER55 has said that she views her sets as explorations of different territories in West, South and North Africa. She is influenced by genres such as Chaâbi and Raï, and finds inspiration in Arab popular music. At the same time, she also finds room for her love of the techno scenes in Mexico and Italy, as well as jungle/bass music. At Tromsø World this year, it is our pleasure to welcome one of the brightest new names in North African electronic music.
