Fado – the Portuguese soul in the heart of Tromsø
Viseklubben Spelt together with Tromsø World invites you to fado all evening concert with four well-known musicians from Portugal. Fado is a Portuguese music style with folk origins, which originated in Lisbon’s poor neighborhoods. It is characterized by melancholic singing accompanied by Portuguese and Spanish guitar.
The seasoned and skilled fado singers/musicians Ana Sofia Varela, Pedro Manuel Barbosa Souto De Castro, Paulo André Rocha Coelho Ramos and Franccisco Amaral Gaspar were invited by the Viseklubben Spelt and played in Tromsø in February 2023, for two concerts. Once again, Viseklubben Spelt, this time together with Tromsø World, invites four Portuguese fado musicians back to Tromsø.
Carolina Varela Ribeiro is the daughter of two skilled fado singers, who is already, despite her young age, an experienced singer. Pedro De Castro runs a fado club in the Alfama area of Lisbon, and is a very skilled and renowned guitarist, playing both Portuguese and classical guitar. Furthermore, there is Andre Ramos on Portuguese cello and Francisco Gaspar on bass.
The musicians play three sets of approx. 20 minutes each. with a break in between. No food is served this time.
Fado is rare in Tromsø, so if you want to experience something new, relive a previous concert or refresh holiday memories or maybe your home country of Portugal, we recommend you come. In February 2023, the concert sold out fairly quickly.
